Codensa and Terpel sign an agreement to develop electric charging points in service stations

  • The agreement establishes that both companies will analyze the viability of implementing and operating electric charging points in the Terpel’s network of service stations.
  • The overcrowding of electric charging points in service stations is one of the main components in order to amplify electric mobility in Colombia.

CODENSA, an Enel Group company, leader in the distribution market and energy sales in the country, and Terpel, a leading company in distributing and selling liquid fuel in Colombia, signed a letter of intent through which the companies will work together to evaluate different models of business and technology appropriated in order to contemplate a future installation of charging points for electric vehicles in Terpel service stations.

This initiative seeks to contribute to the electric mobility having a greater opportunity of expanding in segments like taxis, private vehicles, corporate and official fleets, thus allowing in the medium term the charge of electric vehicles in public sites of different cities in the country. The goal is to begin in Bogotá, without overlooking the project in other regions.

CODENSA’s main contribution to the development of the agreement is centered on the extensive experience that the company and Enel Group has on the topic of electrical mobility, especially in developing and implementing technology and operational models for the recharging of electric vehicles.

In Colombia, CODENSA leads electric mobility operations with 5 charging stations for 43 vehicles participating in the electric taxi pilot in Bogotá, which have covered around 4.5 million kilometers in more than 2 years of operation.

For private electric vehicles, CODENSA has installed a fast-charging station, located in Unicentro shopping mall, and 104 charging solutions in private spaces of owners of electric vehicles. Further, CODENSA has progressed its commercial alliances in order to promote the overcrowding of particular electric mobility in the country.

On the other hand, Terpel will contribute to the wide knowledge of different segments of passenger transportation and a network of fuel supply with the Service Stations located throughout Colombian territory. Today, Terpel has more than 2,000 service stations, the greatest network in the country.

Additionally, the leading company in the Colombian market in sales of liquid fuels will contribute to its investigation in developing new energy alternatives for transportation.

The agreement takes into account evaluating pilot projects, which will allow defining the technical and operational necessities, as well as the commercial model for the installation and functioning of these alternative stations, considering the current regulations, the location of the service stations, the feasibility of installation and availability of spaces within the stations, among other aspects.

“Our strategic focus is to open up to more clients and new technology that allow for new energy use, in a more efficient way that contributes to progress and sustainability of the city, and that contributes to paving the path toward being an intelligent city”

– said Lucio Rubio Díaz, General Director of Enel Colombia.

“The future is nothing different from what we dream about today, and the present is when we start to make it a reality. At Terpel, we believe in innovation, we believe in better service for people and not cars, and therefore, we bet on this agreement with CODENSA in order to promote the development of sustainable transportation options, such as electric mobility in Colombia”

– stated Sylvia Escovar, CEO of Terpel.

“We could not have found a greater ally for this dream because we share experience and leadership. This alliance is calibrated with our business strategy that consists in offering a more competitive price, modern infrastructure and better service to the consumer in our whole network. Today, we make the future”

– Escovar added.

The results of this agreement, which will be in force for six months, will allow visualizing the growth of the network load for electric vehicles in the whole country, with potentially more than 2,000 stations of the Terpel network, which would convert Bogotá and Colombia into pioneers in the world for having an electric charging system in service stations.
