- With more than 15 internal initiatives implemented since March 7, the companies have been able to make this significant reduction.
- Employees and managers of EMGESA and CODENSA actively participate in the internal campaign MODO AHORRO (Saving Mode), whose slogan is “we turn off the lights and turn on our commitment,” in order to reduce energy consumption in the workplace and to do the same at home.
During the first week of implementation of the program MODO AHORRO, the companies EMGESA and CODENSA succeeded in reducing energy consumption by nearly 50% across its offices.
This reduction was achieved as a result of the different initiatives implemented within the companies, notable among which are efforts such as switching off all lights across all administrative offices from 6 p.m. onwards, except in those cases were operations do not allow for it; indeed, it is important to note that, as providers of basic public utilities, certain activities in some areas and at some sites cannot be suspended.
Other initiatives concern internal management of light, by alternating operations in areas where natural light permits it and keeping lights in basement areas turned off throughout the day.
Moreover, the use of air conditioning has been reduced to three hours and a half per day, while only one elevator has been left in operation in each site.
In addition, EGMESA and CODENSA began using backup equipment (power generators) for one hour per day, to self-generate electricity at the Calle 82, Calle 93 and Edificio Técnico sites, thereby reducing network energy consumption.
As an important part of the MODO AHORRO campaign, motivational messages have been held to remind employees of the importance of unplugging office equipment, meeting room televisions and bathroom hand dryers, etc., when not in use, and in applying these efforts and initiatives at home.
