  • The new substation will benefit more than 25,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers from the municipalities of Guachetá, Lenguazaque and Fúquene.
  • The commissioning of this substation contributes to the improvement of CODENSA’s energy service quality indicators in the northern part of the department of Cundinamarca.

With an investment of nearly COP 5,800 million, CODENSA built and commissioned a new substation in the municipality of Guachetá, in order to continue improving the service quality indicators and strengthen the reliability of the electrical system in the northern part of Cundinamarca, in view of the growing energy demand in the municipalities of Guachetá, Lenguazaque and Fúquene.

Through the work carried out by the Company, more than 25,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers from these three municipalities will benefit, thanks to the installation and startup of five new megavolt amperes (MVA), which is equivalent to energizing more than 5,000 urban homes.

Along with the construction of this substation, the installed capacity of the existing circuits in the area also increased and two new circuits were commissioned, for which 32 additional kilometers of overhead grids and 300 meters of underground distribution grids were installed.

The importance of these electrical infrastructure works for the department of Cundinamarca lies in the growth of the demand recorded in the northern part in recent years, particularly in the municipalities of Guachetá, Lenguazaque and Fúquene. It is also important considering the establishment of new industries, the increase in commercial spaces and the permanent development of new housing projects; in addition to the growth of the mining sector in the region, dedicated to the exploitation, processing and sale of coal.

These investments made in Guachetá are part of the intense physical infrastructure expansion plan which CODENSA has been implementing throughout its area of operation in the department, in order to continue improving the service quality indicators and contribute to increasing Bogotá’s and Cundinamarca’s electric system stability and reliability.
