Opening Up Energy to More People

We began the first stage, in which we analyzed and studied the area and the location of these families. Once this study was carried out, we proceeded to geo-reference the dwellings in order to identify what type of strategy we should implement to achieve the objective. This study allowed us to locate 3,200 households in the area of Cundinamarca and to identify that approximately 2,600 of them could be connected to a traditional solution, that is to say, to a source of electric grids even if they were located in scattered areas, and that 580 homes should find a different alternative. Therefore the use of renewable energies was considered in order to supply them, either because they are difficult access areas or because given their distance a greater investment must be made to provide the service.

Once the identification stage was ready, in August 2016, the 100%, Cundinamarca project started and we began the first connection works, managing to complete the operation and installing the energy service to 213 families located in the provinces of Almedias, Sabana, Tequendama, Ubaté, Sumapaz, Guavila, Rio Negro and Soacha. Thus by the end of 2016 we brought the electric power service to a total of 400 families that did not have electricity in their homes. The challenge for 2017 is to reach the goal of connecting about 1,600 more families.

“The power service changed my life, we can bathe daily, we can now preserve our food, working hours have extended, and now we can dedicate ourselves to whatever we want, not only to the activities of the area, but other things as well. Only those who have not had electricity and then have it know how wonderful it is to have it”

– Pedro Ignacio Patiño Nieto, inhabitant of Villa Pinzón.

We contribute to building a more sustainable country into the future

Through 100% Cundinamarca we will be able to connect the electricity service to more than 8,000 homes in the next 5 years, and will continue to do so over time with all the families who request it, regardless of where they are located because building an efficient and sustainable model will allow us to make these connections part of our daily operations and will stop being seen as extraordinary activities.

To make it possible for us to connect the homes of Cundinamarca to the energy service, allows us to bring well-being to the communities of the territory, improve their quality of life and their participation in society, in addition to opening the way to establish the necessary conditions for us to foster the development of the communities. In this way we contribute to the sustainable progress of the country and we grow our economy.

“For us it is very important to contribute to improving people's living conditions, giving them the energy service is not only that they can light a bulb, it goes much further, they can develop any activity they propose to support the sustainable growth of the region, of us as a society and consequently of Colombia”

– Dexter Beltrán, Division Head of the Cundinamarca Operations Unit at Enel Colombia
