Our main goal is to strengthen the electrical infrastructure of Bogotá and Cundinamarca, to boost the economic and industrial development of this region of the country and meet the growing demand for energy.
To do this, we are executing an investment and expansion plan for electrical substations, which will allow us to adapt to the challenges of the electricity sector, the energy transition, industrial expansion, the new POTs (Territorial Planning Plans), electric mobility, population density and urban renewal.
This plan involves a €430 million investment for the construction of new high voltage electrical substations such as Portugal (Engativá), Terminal (Fontibón), San José (Los Mártires), Calle Primera (Los Mártires) , Guaymaral (Suba) Barzalosa (Girardot), Occidente (Funza), Río (Soacha) and for the Advance Transfer of Networks necessary for the construction of the first line of the Bogotá Metro. Let's talk about some of them:
Barzalosa Substation
With a COP $ 30 billion investment, this new substation will be located at Kilometer 6 of the Tocaima - Girardot roadway, in the Alto Magdalena Province, Cundinamarca, and seeks to meet the growing demand for residential, commercial and industrial energy in the region, especially in the municipalities of Girardot, Ricaurte, Tocaima and Agua de Dios.
It will begin operations in 2022, with an initial installed capacity of 80 MVA (million volt-amperes) and will be connected to the Regional Transmission System, by a new 700-meter transition line. In addition, it will have two transformers in its first phase, as well as support, monitoring, security and protection equipment and technology.
Strengthening the Regional Transmission System, Barzalosa will benefit more than 265,000 people in Girardot, Ricaurte, Tocaima, Agua de Dios, Nilo, Nariño, Guataquí, Jerusalem and Coello. The substation is currently in its initial phase, its EIA (Environmental Impact Study) has already been developed and is now awaiting the granting of its Environmental License, to begin its construction and responsible operation in this region of great natural wealth.
Terminal Substation
Located on Avenida Centenario (Calle 17) between Carreras 78 and 79, the Terminal Substation involves a COP $ 20 billion investment and will have an initial installed capacity of 80 MVA, energy equivalent to that consumed by a municipality like Zipaquirá.
Its construction will begin in the coming months. It will have two transformers in its first phase, two high voltage circuits, and imported equipment and technology for support, monitoring, security and protection.
In addition, it will be completely automated and remote controlled, which will allow our operation to have a better response in contingency times. The automation systems and power equipment will comply with the highest international standards.
This substation will serve the growing energy demand in the towns of Fontibón, Kennedy and Puente Aranda, where important city projects are being developed, such as the Bavaria Triangle and the Ciudadela de La Felicidad. Likewise, it will benefit more than 165,000 people in the Modelia, Hayuelos, Castilla, Ciudad Salitre and the Industrial Zone areas.
San José Substation
This substation aims to support the growth in energy demand of Downtown Bogotá and improve the quality, reliability and operability of the energy service in Los Mártires area, as well as its urban rehabilitation.
On this occasion, the works will consist of the dismantling of the current infrastructure and the design, construction and commissioning of a new substation and transmission lines, increasing its capacity. To do this, we will install new technological equipment in buildings, in order to have a lesser visual impact.
San José will double its current capacity and that of its transmission networks, being the third high-voltage substation in Colombia to feature digital technology.
In addition, we are developing other improvement projects such as:
- Advance transfer of networks to build the first Bogotá Metro line: https://www.enel.com.co/es/conoce-enel/enel-codensa/obra-metro-avanzando-con-el-progreso-de -bogota.html
- Calle Primera Substation: https://www.enel.com.co/es/proyectos-en-alta- tension/subestacion-calle-primera.html
With this electrical substation expansion plan, Bogotá and Cundinamarca will have more and better energy available to grow and prepare for the future. We are in this together with all its inhabitants.
