  • ‘Reforesting Soacha’ forms part of CODENSA’s initiatives on Creating Shared Value in the Compartir Substation Project’s area of influence.
  • Through this initiative, we are seeking to support the Soacha River’s restoration process, strengthen environmental education, contribute to the area’s beautification and involve the community in the process of sowing.

CODENSA, the Cundinamarca Regional Autonomous Corporation (CAR, for the Spanish original) and the municipality of Soacha signed a cooperation agreement with the goal of reforesting and beautifying the green areas near the Compartir Substation Project’s area of influence which comprises the area around the Soacha River.

This agreement will be worth a total of COP 78 million and the Company will contribute COP 61 million for: site preparation works (digging and fertilizing), purchase of reforestation materials, maintenance of sowing works for a year, carrying out environmental workshops, as well as on the efficient use of energy, logistics of reforestation sessions, eco-trips, among others.

David Felipe Acosta, CODENSA´s manager says: “The project ‘Reforestating Soacha’ proves that joint efforts between private companies with public entities and the community bring significant social and environmental benefits for the area of influence where CODENSA operates.”

On the other hand, the CAR will provide technical assistance for the project development, will support the execution of environmental workshops and will issue the call for the project’s socialization and reforestation sessions. Additionally, the Soacha City Hall will provide technical assistance for the identification of species to be planted, will draw the landscape design and will adjust the soil (removal of debris and soil stabilization).

According to CAR’s General Director, Néstor Guillermo Franco, “everybody is committed to change the mindset of Soacha’s people, since social mobility does not only include employment and education but telling citizens that they can have a better quality of life through sowing on public roads and beautification that generate another type of behavior of those who benefit from the planting action.”
