The energy exchange, or spot market, is the mechanism through which all generators compete daily to meet the following day’s energy demand. Under this mechanism, generators submit daily price offers and availability declarations for each of their generation plants or units. Subsequently, the market operator assigns production to each generation plant according to the most competitive prices that ensure the national interconnected system’s demand is met in an economic, reliable, and secure manner for the following day.

It is the regulation issued by CREG under Resolution 038 of 2014, which establishes the parameters and criteria for the metering systems of Non-Regulated Market customers, ensuring greater security, quality, and accuracy in information management and measurement recording.

El Niño is a climate variability phenomenon that occurs when the surface of the Tropical Central Pacific Ocean warms. This is caused by the weakening of the trade winds, which normally move warm waters from east to west.
It generally occurs every 3 to 7 years and causes climate changes worldwide. In Colombia, due to its geographic location, temperatures tend to rise, rainfall decreases, and drought conditions may occur.

It is the information system managed by the Commercial Exchange System Administrator (ASIC), through which generators and retailers are subject to wholesale market settlements. These settlements take into account the hourly exchange of offers, demand, contracts, and energy constraints, enabling the Commercial Exchange System Administrator to collect and distribute the corresponding monetary values among the agents of the national interconnected system.
