Bogotá - Región 2030
Enel Grids Investment and Expansion Plan
At Enel Colombia, we work every day to ensure reliable, high-quality, and safe electricity service for Bogota and Cundinamarca, while responding to the growing electricity demand across the city-region. This growth is driven by population increases, commercial and industrial expansion, improved quality of life, the mass adoption of electric mobility, and the development of major district and regional projects.
For this reason, we have developed a robust investment portfolio called “Bogota-Region 2030”, aimed at strengthening the power distribution system in the nation’s capital and throughout Cundinamarca. This initiative includes new electrical infrastructure such as substations, transmission lines, and distribution circuits.
Learning about Bogota-Region 2030 will not only help you understand how electricity reaches your home, business, or industry, but also provide clarity on how investments are made and how they directly benefit you.
Electrical Substations Under Development
Myth: Your health will be affected by electromagnetic fields
Some people believe that living near an electrical substation is dangerous due to electromagnetic fields, but this is not true. Our bodies are accustomed to coexisting with them, and the World Health Organization (WHO) certifies that the frequencies produced by substations are extremely low. Therefore, they are safe and do not affect human health. In the video, we tell you more.
- Project Management Methodology: We have a Shared Value Creation Policy and a Circular Economy Strategy to work with communities and authorities in the areas of influence to identify needs and establish actions to address them.
- We incorporate social management initiatives, stakeholder engagement strategies, participation mechanisms, and clear, timely, and transparent communication with the stakeholders involved in order to address requests, concerns, and feedback.
- Kick-off, follow-up, and closing meetings for each substation; informational letters, personalized invitations, phone calls, and emails; posting notices at city halls; outreach through radio stations and media outlets; etc.
This is how we drive progress and development. Not only by building infrastructure, but also by working with communities and authorities, acting responsibly toward the environment, and ensuring that substations operate in harmony with their surroundings.
Myth: Electrical substations attract more lightning. Reality: They are equipped with protective systems such as lightning rods and help safeguard the surrounding area.
Myth: Electrical substations are noisy. Reality: Due to the technology used, noise levels are increasingly lower and always comply with the regulations required by the authorities.
Myth: Electrical substations will interfere with my electronic devices. Reality: Electricity is transmitted at a frequency of 60 hertz, and your household appliances operate at higher frequencies; therefore, there is no interference.
Myth: Electrical substations cannot be located in residential areas. Reality: They are part of the urban environment, and in Bogota there are 67 substations coexisting with residences, schools, hospitals, and more for nearly 100 years.
